Their first date was on a J/24. “Our dads raced against and with each other on Little Neck Bay on Long Island Sound,” says Annapolis sailor Kristen Robinson as she sits next to her husband Brian on the deck of Eastport YC (EYC). “We joke that we never had a chance.” Since Brian was six years older than she, they knew each other growing up, but not well before Kristen turned 19 and the J/24 date. That was that. When […]
For the second year in a row, Annapolis was graced with strong breeze and sunny skies for the 45th annual Raceweek. Some of the folks at APS raced this weekend and came back to work today with raccoon eyes and sore muscles, wishing the Labor Day weekend was 4 days instead of 3. Everyone survived the tiring races and made it back to the office with accounts from their side of the race course… Matt Fafoutis, Customer Service This year’s Annapolis […]
The following is the September APS Chesapeake Racer Profile, a monthly hi-light in Spinsheet Magazine (written by Molly Winans): If Annapolis sailor Nicole Weaver had a tagline for her sailing career, it would read “baptism by fire.” A native of Stratford-on-Avon, England, Weaver got into sailing “by accident,” when she was working for IBM in Warwick, and one of her squash friends had a proposal for her. His wife and regular crew on his Lark (like a 505) was pregnant […]

505 stories from the front line. Guest blog writer/APS Storefront Manager Mike Lindsley writes, “It all started on a beautiful afternoon in June…” I remember the perplexed look a young man and his father had painted on their faces as they entered the APS storefront for the first time. (Note: This reaction is not uncommon when it comes to first timers to APS as our mass inventory tends to overwhelm…) John and Jack (father/son) did not waste any time to […]
Among the boats this team sails on are the Laser, E-Scow, DN, J/22, J/80, J/109, Soverel 33, Beneteau 40.7, Beneteau 44.7, Farr 395, Farr 40, Log Canoes, and various handicap boats. Mike Lindsley: Storefront Manager What’s your advice for young racing sailors? Wear sunblock! As great as it is to have a sweet hiking pants tan line across your Wayfers, using sunblock will save you a few trips to the dermatologist later in life. Try using sunblock from Blue Lizard […]
Five minutes before the start of the 2011 Solomons Island Race, the crew on-board Farr 40 Yellow Jacket was busy cooking up burgers so we’d be smokin’ fast, on Fire at the start! (See Bill attempting to fit the lid on the grill…) We may not have been the most serious racers on the Bay that night, but we managed to do a pretty good job of sailing and having a little too much fun… The wind gods were kind […]
The Fan Pier a.k.a. water-splashed heart of Boston hosted the Extreme Sailing Series this weekend adding another piece of excitement to the Independence Day festivities. 11 teams completed 37 races. Quite the scene! Over 5 days of racing, an estimated 55,000 spectators came out to take it all in. It was a successful US debut of the Extreme Sailing Series: the Emirates Team New Zealand took the win on the last leg of the final race. American Terry Hutchinson and […]
