What is EasyRigging? |
| EasyRigging - Something New EasyRigging has succeeded in adapting America’s Cup stay technology to PBO fiber stays for sailboats from 12 to 36’. EasyRigging should not be confused with parallel PBO stays that are cut then attached with compression and epoxies to mechanical terminations. Typical parallel construction techniques can not evenly load all of the fibers and therefore use more PBO to ensure strength and lower stretch. This approach works but results in an increase in price, weight and diameter (windage) due to the need to use more material. On the other hand, EasyRigging is continuously wound rigging that consists of one strand of constant tensioned PBO mechanically wound around the terminations. This method ensures all fibers are evenly loaded resulting in the smallest, lightest and least expensive rigging available. This application had previously been prohibitive due to extremely high production costs however a smart new production technique and innovative use of materials allowed SmartRigging to keep the new product extremely affordable despite its high degree of sophistication. EasyRigging Lightweight Rigging EasyRigging, the new world brand, is specifically designed for sailboat standing rigging, head stays and aft rigging such as, check stays, runners, etc. The more “engineered” diamond shrouds used on catamarans as well as jumpers used on fractional rigs are also tested and available. EasyRigging cable engineers construct and produce super lightweight, endless wound rigging cables with high module PBO fibers. These super fibers are 70-90% lighter than and twice as strong as steel rigging. The fiber properties make these high performance rigging cables much lighter and stronger than steel rigging. |

Why Use PBO Rigging? |

For years now, PBO (Zylon) has been the gold standard by which running rigging has been measured. Now that fiberous standing rigging has become more commonly accepted, the characteristics that make PBO the top choice for running rigging are the same that make it the top choice for fiberous standing rigging.
For those sailors who are unfamiliar with fiberous rigging, questions commonly arise regarding the strength and durability of fiberous rigging as compared to traditional wire rigging. Here are some compelling statistics regarding EasyRigging PBO vs. traditional wire standing rigging:
