Ensign Mainsheet System - 4:1 / 3:1

This system is a 4:1 / 3:1 mainsheet set up. Use either the new carbo (lighter stronger) or classic blocks. Make sure your mainsheet has a carabineer spliced on the end so you can unclip it from the becket on the fiddle. This allows it to drop and stop at the lower fiddle reducing the purchase to 3:1 in lighter air (less mainsheet to pull in at the leeward mark). The “head-banger” (H140) is a standard on the Ensign, but the new ratcheting flip-flop block from Harken provide better sheet control. The Ratchamatic ratcheting action automatically engages when loaded to relive strain. Additionally, it can be adjusted with an allen screw to engage at higher or lower sheet tension depending on your preference. Mounting this to the underside of your boom will require you to be creative. We’re still looking for the best way to accomplish this. Let us know if you know of one.
