Ensign 4:1 Vang Block Cleated |
||||||||||||||
Our Ensign vang system use 57mm Harken Carbo blocks which are light and super strong. The use of 3/16” AmSteel 12 strops further lightens the assembly by reducing the amount of line that is needed in the purchase. Additionally the lower fiddle block is raised above the deck for easier cleating angles. Simply attaché the lower stop to the mast fitting at deck level then, the upper strop to your boom bail. If you still have the old “hook-in” boom plate you can upgrade to a Schaefer through bolt vang bail (SC9028). Notice that the cleat are has been revered (cleat opening faces the deck) and the cleat plate angle has been adjusted up. In a big puff when you need to release the vang quickly (to depower/dump the main), the vang line can be pulled in any direction for immediate and unhindered release. Use 5/16” line for the vang line. To upgrade this system to an 8:1, simply add a 57mm Carbo single (H2600), the double attachment plate for the mast attachment, and a second 3/16” AmSteel strop. See the 8:1 deck cleated vang on this page. Due to the varied attachment locations on the boom and mast, you will need to measure for line lengths to fit you particular set up. We are happy to splice these up for you or supply you the line so you can do it your self. |

Our Ensign vang systems use 57mm Harken Carbo blocks which are light and super strong. The use of 3/16” AmSteel 12 strops further lightens the assembly by reducing the amount of line that is needed in the purchase. The use of the purchase plate at the mast attachment keeps the primary cascade line from interfering with the lower block. Simply shackle the purchase plate to the mast fitting at deck level then the attach the upper strop to your boom bail. If you still have the old “hook-in” boom plate you can upgrade to a Schaefer through bolt vang bail (SC9028).
