When Will Your Order Ship?
APS will contact you with within one business day with a day-definite shipping date for your rigging order. All rigging orders are processed on a first come, first served basis and our shipping dates are determined by the current volume of orders in our Rigging Department. Please be aware that at the peak of our season (May - August), rigging times may exceed three business days.

Melges 32 Powdercoated Backstay Flicker

Offered in response to sailors' concerns about the longevity of their backstay flickers. These powdercoated versions offer greatly improved longevity by preventing UV damage to the epoxy and e-glass inside. The new flickers are projected to have three times the lifespan of the non powdercoated versions. They are supplied undrilled so you are able to fit your own hardware as needed.

Please note, like any unidirectional material, when drilled, it’s crucial to drill from both sides to eliminate the potential for fiber blowout.

The Melges 32 backstay are made with Vectrus 12, SK90 or Dynex Dux with a DCS Dynema cover to prevent damage from the sail. SK 90 and Dynex Dux are both great, lightweight options offering very high strength and low stretch, perfect for high load applications where no creep is a must. Each end has a high load sailmaker thimble spliced in.

The continuous control line for the Melges 32 has the cover stripped back and buried at the ends. The two core tails 18” (tails are 3-1/2’ long each for easy splicing) from the bury are marked for you for ease of splicing. You will need to splice the Dyneema cores together (using a simple 12-strand splice and bury) once the line is reeved through your blocks on the boat.

Dyneema SK-75 single braid; minimal stretch with zero water absorption

Melges 32 Backstay Cascade Purchase lines have eyes spliced on to each end. Luggage tag the extender to the pad eye on the starboard transom. For the primary, luggage tag one end to the free eye on the extender line and to the bail of a Tylaska T5 trigger shackle (sold separately) at the same time. Then run it up and through the block attached to the backstay and end on the floating block. The secondary is luggage tagged to the pad eye on the port side of the transom, run up and through the floating block, back down and through a single on the transom, and attached to the double block that the traveler control line runs through.
