Tylaska Spool Shackles |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Spool Shackles by Tylaska rid your sheets and halyards of the needless weight of traditional shackles. These patent pending, Tylaska shackles will not jam and remain easy to fasten and unfasten even after loading up to the tensile strength of the line. Machined from high-strength aluminum, the Spool Shackle has an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. The key is that the line itself supplies the strength while the shackle simply redirects the force. The ease of unfastening after loading is equally amazing. Based upon the concept of "breaking the back" of a bowline knot, the line can be rolled back and taken off even after it becomes "stiff as a wire" from tension. The Spool Shackle works with both conventional and hi-tech lines. All that's needed is an eye spliced (looped) end. Better yet, you don't have to open a spliced loop and then resplice it to attach the Spool Shackle to a line. Just slide the Spool Shackle on and close the retaining pin. The retaining pin keeps the Spool Shackle captive on the loop when not in use and can be removed for transferring to another line. An "O" ring is included but its use is optional. (Slides down against loop locked end of line for extra security against release during sail flogging. Testing thus far indicates the "O" ring is not necessary.)

Dyneema Shackle Loops by APS |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Whether you call them soft shackles, softies, or loops - it’s clear that spliced Dyneema shackles are quickly becoming the norm on high performance race boats from the America’s Cup to moths and everything in between. Extremely lightweight and strong, these can replace shackles almost anywhere you need them and happen to be ideal for jib sheets as they won’t bang up your mast or get chewed up by inhaulers. Our shackle loops are also a great way to attach blocks like the Harken T2 or Airblocks to a padeye, toerail, or boom when you need a block to be able to rotate and pivot in ways a shackle won’t allow. A Velcro securing strap comes with each shackle to prevent the loop from coming undone in no-load flogging situations.
Spliced onto the end of a stripped halyard, it’s the lightest weight halyard attachment available.These Dyneema shackle loops are offered in a wide range of diameters and lengths. Developed in-house by APS expert riggers: They are all made in the APS rigging shop and can be custom made to any length* you need. Overall 'length' is determined by closing Dyneema shackle loop and measuring the inside length. See diagram above.

Kohlhoff Loops |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Connecting parts with ropes is nothing new in sailing. Kohlhoff offers a twin loop rope shackle which is easy to use, extremely strong and safe. This loop is the basic part of all Kohlhoff Loop Products. The loops are made of Gottifredi Maffioli’s Compact Braid, a polyurethane coated Dyneema® SK 75 single braid.
Lightweight and compact they don't cause any damages to your deck or hull. If you find you accidentally drop one overboard, they don't sink immediately. They close automatically under load with both part equally strained which increases the breaking strength.

Yale Loups |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Make it light. Yale Cordage has unveiled LOUPS - a new product designed to replace steel shackles, providing greater strength at a fraction of steel's weight. Using UHMW Braid, Yale's engineers overlap consecutive coils, then splice the ends to create a single loop of overlapping lines. That multiple-strand loop is then encased in a 48 carrier polyethylene sleeve to reduce abrasion. The completed loop then undergoes Yale's proprietary process to equalize stress across each strand, ensuring maximum strength when the finished LOUP is ultimately installed. Yale tested their first LOUPS on Team Adventure during The Race, where they were used to replace steel hardware for a variety of applications. The 30 LOUPS that were used to replace Team Adventure's shackles resulted in a weight savings of more than 200 pounds. After The Race they did not look like they had been under stress and exposed to the elements for more than 30,000 miles. Yale has incorporated color-coded wear indicators in the sleeve's braid which also identify the LOUPS' strength rating. As they undergo use, the colored tracers will break down, indicating the need to replace the LOUP.
Optional Dogbone works only with the ARI3144 Loup. |
