Choosing the Correct Furlex System
Selden's Furlex jib furlers are available in two different sized systems. The Furlex 20S is made specifically for the dinghy boats. The Furlex 50S system is for larger boats in the 18-26 ft range. The 50S system is supplied as a complete kit including forestay wire, halyard lead, stanchion block, prefeeder and furling line. In choosing the correct Furlex 50S system for your vessel, follow the below diagram and tables for the correct parts.

Selden Furlex 20S Furling System

Selden Furlex 20S Furling System
The Furlex 20S is designed for free flying jibs on dinghies. The furling system features stainless steel bearings, adjustable line exit and optional halyard lead arm. The Furlex 20S bottom furler has twin bearing units with 4mm stainless steel ball bearings. These larger ball bearings run in multi-axis bearing units to reduce friction and wear. A further benefit of the bearing design is that with one bearing in the upper part of the furling drum and one in the lower, the radial torque from the furling line is evenly distributed. This eliminates the problem of the drum twisting, a common cause of friction in more basic designs.

The top swivel also has a bearing system with 4mm ball bearings to minimise friction. It is particularly important to select a low-friction top unit to prevent the halyard from twisting, instead of the swivel.

Can be easily fitted on your furling line by tying a thumbknot on the dead end of the line and feeding it through the hole in the drum upper surface. For outer drum rotation, the outer cover can be rotated and locked in one of fifteen positions.

Selden Furlex 50S Furling System
The Furlex 50S jib furling system is designed for boats 18-24 feet long. It's the perfect choice for every sailor who wants a compact, low weight furling and reefing system and it shares many features with the larger members of the world-famous Furlex family. Made of a high quality, glass fiber reinforced polyamide composite. Features a stainless steel insert for low friction line management. Uniform cross-section of extrusion from head to tack for better performance of a reefed sail and single groove extrusion for 5mm luff tape. The fork/fork toggle is used for proper forestay articulation.

The patented load distributor in the halyard swivel and the full length distance tubes for smooth rotation are the same as on all the other Furlex models. The Furlex 50S is supplied as a complete kit including forestay wire, halyard lead stanchion block prefeeder and furling line. The system is easy to install.

Selden Code X
Selden Code X furlers are operated with an endless furling line running over a line driver. A narrow line guide fitting leads the line on to the line driver and gives a good grip. A wedge shaped line stripper separates the line when unfurling, allowing the line driver to spin freely. The furling line is usually led all the way back to the cockpit. To help handling the endless control line, Seldén has a new custom Tandem-block. This is a fiddle block with two cam cleats. As an alternative, a shorter furling line can be operated by the foredeck crew.

This system makes furling easier for the crew. The furling system is used for a Gennaker, Code 0 and Stay Sail.
