Technical Sailing Gear
Below, you'll find everything you need to keep you safe, comfortable, and happy on the water. We've laid everything out in a simple fashion, presenting the most popular options for outfitting yourself from head to toe for 3 different weather categories:

Warm Weather: When both the air and water temperatures are warm. Gear should offer enough protection to keep you dry despite rain or spray. Warm weather sailing is the most common type of sailing in the US.

*As a general rule, when either the air or water drop below 50 degrees, you'll want to think about having a drysuit or wetsuit on for protection.

Cool Weather - Wet Suit: For the in-between temperatures, when a dry suit isn't necessary, but you need added warmth. Wet suits are made of neoprene and designed trap and warm water around your skin. The trapped water then acts as insulation to regulate body temperature. There are base and top layers you can wear, too, that will increase your warmth/comfort and ensure the longevity of your wet suit.

Cold Weather - Dry Suit:: A dry suit is your best defense against the elements when sailing in cold weather conditions. This full body suit is completely waterproof, and only your hands and head are exposed. A definite must for anyone sailing during the winter, late fall, or early spring. Like the wet suits, there are layers available to give you warmth and make you comfortable. Wearing top layers will increase the life of your dry suit.
