These coatings are often used in splicing applications to decrease the affects of wear on the working end. It is recommended to coat halyards at exit points or the ends of spinnaker guys to reduce wear from the pole ends. Here at APS, we like to apply this coating in our rigging shop after splicing on shackles or eyes. Coated line areas should not be used to wrap on winches, nor in cleats or clutches.

Line coatings can also be used on high tech cores and then have the cover reapplied. This technique gives the core improved abrasion resistance and reduces cover to core slipping when applied under a clutching area.
