A Selden Rodkicker is designed to perform many functions. First, it facilitates sail handling when reefing, preventing the boom from dropping into the cockpit or onto the coach roof. Next, when fitted with Selden gas spring, that keeps the boom lifted when the vang line is released, opening the leech of the sail.
The extended block attachment lug allows the block to turn, so you can easily operate from port or starboard. The end fittings have an enclosed sheaved and recessed split pin that doesn't snag the sails or crew. Inner extrusion end plug prevents metal to metal contact by acting as an easy-slide bushing. The upper sliding bearing is designed as an elastic buffer to diffuse the shock if the kicker suddenly bottoms. Carefully tested to meet strict performance and quality standards. Made of anodized aluminum.
Gas spring eliminates the need for a topping lift, making reefing and sail storage easy. Gas springs are available in a range of strengths, to cover variations in boom weight (including the stowed sail) and the Rodkicker angle. The angle varies with gooseneck height and kicker length. The integral 2:1 purchase doubles your existing vang purchase. Can be easily retrofitted to an existing rig. Reuse your current vang system or put together a new one. The vang system is excellent for light air main trim.
Designed for boats that are either fractional and weighing 22 tons or masthead weighing 27.5 tons.
