Hi, this is Kyle from APS, and I'm here to share with you a really cool, unique hat. This is the Snoqualmie Sombrero by OR, Outdoor Research. I've owned one of these for ... I want to say 10 years, and I get a lot of use out of it. Falls, in the winter, in the spring, it is a ... I'm going to try this on here ... it is a Gore Tex hat throughout, so it's completely waterproof. If I'm in just a torrential downpour or it's just spitting rain all day long and I don't want to wear a hood and be confined, if I wear this with my foul weather gear, and with the collar up high, it basically just ... the rain just goes right over the sides, not down in to the jacket, so I can walk around or be on the boat all day long in those just miserable conditions. As the weather maybe improves, I still want a hat, but I don't need that much weather protection, I can put the sides up. I rarely do that, but it is an option.
Okay, some of the really nice custom features ... and I'm going to put this back on. This is the fleece ear covering, so when I'm wearing this in the cold, my ears are completely covered here. I'm protected by the rain, I've got a little bit of a brim, if I'm looking into the wind a bit, ears are protected, and then if I don't need the ear protection, I can just fold it back in.
I'm going to get into the band that goes around the hat. In the back here is a Velcro adjustment, and you can actually resize the hat so that you're not as reliant on the chin strap in a breeze. You can tighten it or loosen it. The inside is lined, it's got this kind of very soft material, and of course that just help as a wicking material and it helps pull any moisture to the Gore-Tex and out through it.
Lastly is this chin strap. There's really not much hardware, the slider is soft down here, and they've anticipated you might not want to use this so they've actually created loops and it's tied on so you can untie this from both sides if you prefer not to use it and just get rid of it. That's been my preference. Mine fits we quite well in a breeze, I don't worry about it coming off.
If you're looking for some great protection in some cold weather, the Snoquamie by OR.
