Navtec Integral Hydraulic Backstay Adjuster
These Series 8 adjusters incorporate several key design
improvements over past series. The pressure gauge is positioned prominently, enabling fast, accurate readings of tension values. A longer pump handle produces a faster pumping motion and more tension per stroke. These improvements demand greater performance out of modern masts. The feed tube is seated in the contour of the cylinder, resulting in a secure design and an integrated look. Use of the specifically-designed integral Navtec toggle is strongly recommended. Wire diameter is based on 1 x 19. Step-by-step instructions make installation simple and painless. When installing a hydraulic backstay for the first time, remove the backstay and send it to APS to be shortened, or we can supply you with a Norseman mechanical fitting for you to do all the work onsight.
Made of 304 stainless steel and designed for use with corresponding pin size on swaged or mechanical-type marine eyes commonly used with 1x19 wire. Come with "stepped down" lower pin diameter for typical split backstay applications, with the exception of SC8496, which is stepped.
Adjusting cars replace separate blocks, and connecting ring or shackle Tandem sheaves eliminate severe backstay wire flexing. For maximum car release, use a 1.5 to 1 ratio between backstay base width and car height (click on image for full diagram).
The 38 Series car with Delrin sheaves are for boats up to 30ft. The 39 Series car with aluminum sheaves for boats up to 40ft. Match with Harken 40mm or 57mm Carbo Blocks.
The backstay flicker is a fiberglass rod fitted to the masthead on a fractionally rigged boat. It lifts up a wire or rope backstay to allow for free passage of a fully roached mainsail. Comes complete with fasteners and backstay block. Available in two options, depending on boat size, under 30ft or 30 - 37ft.
